[TV Daily Reporter Han Seoyul] Punkystudio, the production company behind MBC's audition program 'Boy Fantasy - After School Sleepless Season 2', has revealed the details of negotiations with contestant Yoojunwon.

On February 8, Punkystudio announced that despite efforts to encourage the artist's return by proposing to shorten the contract period to one year, no agreement was reached with Yoojunwon's parents. CEO Kim Kwangsoo mentioned that the significant popularity of the broadcast led to their proposal, but discrepancies with the family’s demands ultimately halted discussions. Yoojunwon's parents replied that they would participate in activities if the contract was reduced to three months, while the production company noted that they could not reconcile differences regarding the duration of activities and profit distribution.

Punkystudio asserted that both Yoojunwon and his parents signed the contract in an unusual legal representative capacity, highlighting the extent of parental involvement. The core stipulation stated that Yoojunwon would entrust all management responsibilities to Punkystudio for five years after reaching the finals. The production company representative also expressed they could disclose evidence of the conversation if necessary.

This negotiation process highlights the complexities that can arise between artists and production companies in the entertainment industry. Despite Yoojunwon achieving first place in the competition, his inability to engage in immediate activities due to the binding contract illustrates the significant impact such agreements can have on an artist's career trajectory. While Punkystudio’s proposal aimed to facilitate Yoojunwon's future options, the stance of his parents reflects their understandable concerns for his well-being.

The production company's assertion emphasizes the legal ramifications of the contract, and the unresolved discussions with the family leave a sense of disappointment for fans. This situation serves as a case study reflecting how contractual relationships in the entertainment industry may fail to provide a stable foundation, potentially stifling an artist’s creativity. The challenges faced by young artists like Yoojunwon are indeed critical issues that warrant ongoing discussion.

Ultimately, this incident prompts reflection on the boundary between an artist's independence and the over-involvement of their parents. It underlines the need for a business environment that allows young artists to carve out their paths uninterrupted.
