Shin Hye-sun's acting limitations were evident in 'One and Only Love'.
Despite high viewership ratings, criticisms have emerged.
Her inability to convey the complexity of her character detracted from viewer immersion.

[TVDaily Reporter Choi Hana] KBS2's new drama 'One and Only Love' achieved remarkable viewership ratings right off the bat, yet the limitations of lead actress Shin Hye-sun's acting were notably apparent. The drama, aired on the 22nd, revolves around a ballerina and an angel in a fantasy romance, with Shin Hye-sun portraying the character Lee Yeon-seo, who carries a tragic backstory. However, her performance fell short in conveying the emotional depth required, resulting in a one-dimensional representation of the character. Lee Yeon-seo's complex psyche was not portrayed effectively, failing to captivate viewers. This shortcoming has been a recurring critique of Shin in her past works as well. Despite her efforts to train for the ballerina role, her dance movements and execution of ballet lacked finesse, leaving much to be desired. The premiere episode, while successful in garnering attention, still suffered from a lack of depth in character portrayal.

Shin Hye-sun, despite her achievements in past works, showcases notable limitations in her acting within this drama. Her character, Lee Yeon-seo, grapples with numerous internal conflicts that are not effectively communicated through her performance, making it difficult for viewers to relate. The limitations in her acting become especially pronounced when considering the complexity of the background and contrasting traits that Lee Yeon-seo embodies, which directly undermines the message the drama attempts to convey, thereby diminishing overall immersion.

As the lead of the drama, Shin Hye-sun's responsibilities are significant, yet concerns regarding her acting abilities have heightened with each episode. Her unchanged expressions and monotonous delivery of lines contribute to viewer boredom, significantly detracting from Lee Yeon-seo's appeal. Ultimately, the main character of a drama must be portrayed with greater depth and understanding.

Unlike her performances in previously popular works, this drama fails to demonstrate an evolution in her acting capabilities. Although the role of a ballerina presented a unique challenge for Shin Hye-sun, the shortcomings in execution have left viewers disappointed, highlighting a disparity between expectation and delivery.
